YORK, Pa. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has re-certified Montenay York Energy Systems, LLC a "Star" site in its Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), and will honor the facility during a special flag ceremony at 12:00 Noon on Tues., May 17, 2005 at their facility. Montenay is a subsidiary of Onyx North America which is a subsidiary of Veolia Corp., the largest international environmental service company, based in France. Veolia employs more than 280,000 employees around the world. The waste to energy facility maintains injury and illness rates below the national average for their industry and meets all safety and program elements for VPP, which far exceed minimum OSHA standards. Marie Cassady, deputy regional administrator for OSHA in Philadelphia, will make the presentation. "This VPP award recognizes Montenay's continued commitment to safety and health," said Cassady. "It is a tremendous accomplishment." VPP offers employers a unique opportunity to move beyond traditional safety programs by recognizing participants who successfully incorporate comprehensive safety and health programs into their total management system. The VPP programs are open to deserving employers in any industry. Approximately 1,200 work sites throughout the United States have earned VPP membership. Requirements for application include a high degree of management support and employee involvement, a high-quality worksite hazard analysis, prevention and control programs and comprehensive safety and health training for all employees. Each of these elements must be effective, in place and in operation for at least one year before applying to join the program.
