University of Findlay to Host OSHA Emergency Preparedness/Worker Safety Conference May 17

CHICAGO -- The University of Findlay will be the site of a one-day conference highlighting emergency preparedness planning and response activities May 17 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:14 p.m. on the university campus in Findlay, Ohio.

The OSHA 2005 Emergency Preparedness and Worker Safety Conference is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Administration, the Ohio Homeland Security Agency, the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The not-for-profit, one-day event will offer expert speakers in the field of emergency preparedness and response, as well as breakout sessions on a variety of subjects including one providing lessons learned from the World Trade Center attack.

"Emergency preparedness and worker safety are now critical aspects of our everyday life," said OSHA Regional Administrator Michael G. Connors, Chicago. "Construction companies, hospitals and the public health community, and all workers involved in emergency preparedness planning and response activities will benefit from this conference."

"Emergency preparedness is a key focus of our homeland security efforts," said Ohio Homeland Security Executive Director John Overly. "We are making great strides as a state to improve our response and readiness capabilities, and events like this conference will help to further our work in this critical area. I commend the conference attendees for their commitment and dedication in helping us to achieve a safer, more secure and better-prepared Ohio."

Registration for the conference can be completed on-line at http://seem.findlay.edu/OSHAReg/ or by contacting Mark Alliman by e-mail at malliman@findlay.edu or telephone at (419) 434-4135.
