OSHA TO HOLD SEMINAR ON LEAD AND SILICA DUST IN DOTHAN, ALABAMA

The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration will co-sponsor an outreach seminar in Dothan, Ala., Thurs., Oct. 18, for contractors whose employees are exposed to lead and silica dust.

The one-hour seminar will address OSHA regulations and employer liabilities, exposure prevention methods, medical and exposure recordkeeping regulations and employee access rights.

Interested contractors are invited to attend the seminar beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Houston County Health Department, 1781 Cottonwood Rd. in Dothan.

Employees can be exposed to silica if they lay brick or block; chip, hammer or drill rock or concrete; mix concrete or mortar; dry sweep or blow down dusty areas; haul, dump or load rock, sand or dirt or are exposed to road dust.

Those wishing to attend should pre-register for the free seminar by calling the Dothan Associated General Contractors of America office at (334) 832-4001.

In addition to OSHA, seminar co-sponsors include SafeState, the Mobile-Pensacola Building Trades Council, United Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, the Alabama/Georgia Joint Apprentice Training Fund, Alabama Branch - Associated General Contractors of America, Mobile County Road Builders Association, Inc., Alabama Road Builders Association, Inc. and the American Lung Association.
