Construction Safety Training Sessions Offered in English and Spanish DENVER -- Providing affordable job safety training to front line workers and supervisors in Colorado's construction industry is the focus of the "SafetyFest of the West" training conference February 24 and 25 at the Wings Over the Rockies Museum, 7711 East Academy Blvd. Co-sponsored by the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), "SafetyFest of the West" will be held in conjunction with the 2005 American Subcontractors Association Trade Show. "Cooperative efforts such as this in Colorado encourage businesses to develop and maintain effective safety and health programs," said Greg Baxter, OSHA's regional administrator in Denver. "They are a key element of compliance assistance efforts fostered by Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao." The "OSHA 10-Hour Construction Training Program" will be offered in both English and Spanish from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 and 7:00 a.m. thru noon on Feb. 25. The training sessions include mandatory coursework through which participants can earn the OSHA 10-hour construction card. Course offerings include sessions on: Electrical Safety; Fall Protection; Introduction to OSHA; Scaffolding; Trenching and Excavating; Health/Hazard Communication; Personal Protective Equipment and Ladders; Material Handling and Cranes; Hand and Power Tools; and Motor Vehicle Safety. A separate 10-hour "Safety Coaching Training Program" for front-line supervisors or personnel responsible for the safety function of small companies or work crews will be offered in English only from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 and 7:00 a.m. thru noon on Feb. 25. Coursework will focus on areas causing injuries in the construction industry, communicating safety to front line workers and learning about safety resources. Participants who complete the training will receive a "Safety Coach" completion card. Registration for either the Construction Training Program or the Safety Coach Card is $60 before Feb. 17 or $75 after or at-the-door and includes all training events, a continental breakfast and lunch.
