Synopsis of the OSH Act OSHA Compliance Assistance:
Synopsis of the OSH Act

The OSH Act requires employers to comply with safety and health standards issued by OSHA, as well as with other regulations issued by OSHA. In addition, the Act includes a "general duty clause," which applies to hazards not addressed by any specific OSHA standard. The general duty clause requires employers to provide their employees with a workplace that is free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm. For a more detailed summary of the OSH Act, see DOL's Employment Law Guide: Occupational Safety and Health.
