Blair House Reception in Honor of Native American Artists Donating Original Artwork to Embassies

The Office of the Chief of Protocol will honor five Native American artists at a Blair House reception on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 4:15 p.m. There will be an unveiling of the artists’ original works that were commissioned by the National Museum of the American Indian in conjunction with the Art in Embassies program. The works will be distributed to American Embassies throughout the world.

Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker will host the event. Invitees include the ambassadors to the United States from the Western Hemisphere, patrons of the Art in Embassies program, patrons of the Native American Museum, and representatives from the Department of State.

Artists Norman Akers, Mario Martinez, Larry McNeil, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith and Marie Watt will be recognized at the reception. Working in conjunction with printers from the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico, they created this important collection of prints with the goal of broadening international understanding and appreciation for contemporary Native art.

This event is open for press coverage.

Press Check-in: 3:45 p.m. at the Blair House, 700 Jackson Place/Pennsylvania Avenue Street entrance.
