U.S.-Japan Economic Sub-Cabinet Discussions

Senior economic officials from the United States and Japan will meet in Tokyo, Japan on December 6 and 7 for a meeting of the U.S.-Japan Sub-Cabinet Economic Dialogue. The Sub-Cabinet Dialogue was inaugurated in 2001 to help set the direction of U.S.-Japan economic relations and address global, regional and bilateral economic and trade issues.

Deputy National Security Advisor Daniel Price and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Masaharu Kohno will co-chair the meeting, which includes senior officials from the Departments of State, Treasury, Commerce, Agriculture, and Energy and the Office of the United States Trade Representative. The Japanese delegation will be led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and bring together a similar range of ministries.

The officials will discuss bilateral economic issues as well as regional and global issues of common strategic importance. They will focus on how the United States and Japan, the world's two largest national economies, can work together to improve bilateral trade and investment ties, contribute to a strong, secure international economic system, and expand economic opportunity.

The most recent Sub-Cabinet meeting was held in April 2007 in Washington, DC.
