Assistant Secretary Lincoln Bloomfield Hosts Political-Military Talks with Argentine Delegation

Assistant Secretary of State for Political Military Affairs Lincoln P. Bloomfield, Jr. hosted day-long talks December 5 with an Argentine delegation led by Ambassador Fernando Petrella, Under Secretary of Foreign Policy for the Argentine Foreign Ministry, to discuss regional and global issues of security, peacekeeping, non-proliferation and other topics of mutual concern.

Argentine and U.S. officials exchanged views on the challenges presented by unrest in Venezuela and Haiti and the need to support the Government of Colombia in its struggle against narco-terrorism. Also on the agenda were support for UN Security Council resolutions pertaining to Iraq and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.

These talks, the ninth such annual meeting between the U.S. and Argentine governments, demonstrate the high level of cooperation and consultation between the United States and our close friend and ally Argentina.
