Afghanistan: Attack On Policewoman

The United States condemns yesterday's murder of a senior Afghan policewoman, Lieutenant Colonel Malalai Kakar, who led Kandahar’s Department of Crimes Against Women. The Taliban in Afghanistan's Kandahar province have claimed responsibility. Malalai Kakar’s son was gravely wounded in the attack as well. This abhorrent crime is the latest example of the Taliban's deliberate targeting of Afghanistan’s police officers bravely working to rebuild and secure their country. We honor the commitment and sacrifice of Malalai Kakar and all Afghan National Police officers working to build a peaceful, democratic, and safe Afghanistan.
