Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to Travel to New York For the United Nations 63rd General AssemblyU.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be in New York City starting on Sunday, September 21, 2008 to attend the United Nations 63rd General Assembly. While in New York, Secretary Rice will conduct a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings with her counterparts.
The Department of State will establish a Press Office in Suite 24 M of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, 301 Park Avenue (between 49th and 50th Streets) in New York City during Secretary Rice’s visit. The Press Office will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008, and will operate until the conclusion of the Secretary's visit. The telephone number for the Press Office in New York is (212) 588-6030. Details of media coverage for Secretary Rice’s schedule will be provided at a later date. Daily schedules (including media coverage opportunities) and transcripts of the Secretary's remarks will be available in the Press Office.
Journalists who intend to cover Secretary Rice's events in New York are encouraged to provide their New York contact information to the State Department Press Office in New York, either in person or by phone at (212) 588-6030.
Please note that, as in past years, the State Department will not establish a filing center at the hotel. Journalists must make their own filing, communications, and equipment arrangements, and are encouraged to use mobile phones when possible.
