U.S. Department of State and Avon Foundation Co-Host 2008 Breast Cancer Global Congress

Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs James K. Glassman will address the 2008 Breast Cancer Global Congress, on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Goli Ameri and Director of the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade Dr. Mark Hurlbert will open the event that morning in the George C. Marshall Conference Center at the U.S. Department of State.

The Congress will bring together breast cancer clinicians and researchers, public health authorities, survivors and advocates to discuss the global challenges pertaining to breast cancer, awareness programs, and recent developments in screening and treatment. Experts attending the Global Congress include approximately 40 International Visitors sponsored by ECA. After the Congress these International Visitors will continue to explore breast cancer treatment and awareness through specially designed programs around the country.

The morning session ONLY is open for press coverage.
Pre-set time for cameras: 7:15 a.m.
Final access time for all press: 7:45 a.m.

Media should enter the U.S. Department of State for this event via the 21st Street Entrance (on 21st Street between C and D Streets). A table will be set up inside the lobby entrance for press to register before entering the Marshall Conference Center. Media representations may attend this briefing upon presentation of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
