Departments of State and Homeland Security Announce Members Of The Secure Borders And Open Doors Advisory Committee

The Departments of State and Homeland Security (DHS) today announced the appointments of Dr. Jared L. Cohen, President of Carnegie Mellon University, as Chair of the Secure Borders and Open Doors Advisory Committee (SBODAC), and John Chen, Chairman, CEO, and President, Sybase Inc., as Co-Chair of the Committee. This Advisory Committee is a subcommittee of the Homeland Security Advisory Council.

Also announced were the following appointments to the Advisory Committee:

  • Frank Cilluffo, Associate Vice-President for Homeland Security, George Washington University
  • Roxane Cohen Silver, Professor of Psychology, University of California-Irvine
  • Eduardo J. Padron, President, Miami-Dade Community College
  • Keith Reinhard, Worldwide Chairman and President, DDB Worldwide Advertising
  • Dr. Paul B. Roth, Executive Vice President for Health Services, University of New Mexico
  • Rose Mary Valencia, Director, Office of International Affairs, The University of Texas Health Science Center
  • John Engler, President, National Association of Manufacturers
  • Richard Stephens, Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Administration, The Boeing Company
  • Sandy Dhuyvetter, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Producer, Travel Talk Media
  • Roger Dow, President and Chief Executive Officer, Travel Industry Association of America
  • J.W. Marriott, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Marriott International, Inc.
  • James (Jay) Rasulo, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
  • Maria Luisa O'Connell, President, Border Trade Alliance
  • James May, President and Chief Executive Officer, Air Transport Association
  • Gregory Principato, President, Airports Council International-North America
  • Charles Vest, President Emeritus, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Secure Borders and Open Doors Advisory Committee includes experts from the tourism industry, health care, academia and the private sector, and will provide advice and recommendations to State and DHS on efforts to maintain security while increasing the graciousness and efficiency of our official welcome to those who visit our country.

The Committee is holding its inaugural meeting, Wednesday, Dec. 6, in Washington, DC. Members will be joined by two expert panelists, Mr. Tom Donohue, President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Ms. Susan Ginsburg, Visiting Fellow at the Migration Institute.
