| Press Statement Richard Boucher, Spokesman Washington, DC November 7, 2001 U.S. Condemns Shooting of Judge in SpainWe condemn the barbaric shooting today, November 7, of Judge Jose Maria Lidon Corbi in Northern Spain, which came only one day following the November 6 car bombing in Madrid which seriously wounded 4 people, and slightly injured 100 others. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Judge Lidon Corbi and all the Spanish people. The Spanish Government has said that both these recent attacks bear all the hallmarks of past actions by the Basque terrorist group "ETA." Last June President Bush and President Aznar affirmed that the U.S. and Spain will stand together against terrorism. This commitment was reaffirmed by President Aznar and the Spanish Government following the events of September 11. We will consistently support the Spanish Government's vigorous efforts to combat ETA terrorism and to bring the perpetrators of these and similarly cowardly attacks to justice. ### |
