HINDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO BE SITE OF SATELLITE TRAINING ON NEW OSHA RECORDKEEPING RULES

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration will provide training on the revised occupational injury and illness record keeping rule on December 12 at Hinds Community College in Jackson, Miss. The training session will allow national OSHA experts to answer questions about the new rule via satellite.

Sponsored by OSHA's Jackson Area Office and the Mississippi State University Center for Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health Division, the training session is set to run from 12:00 Noon until 2:30 p.m. central time. Hinds Community College will host the free satellite training at Rankin Campus, George Wynne Hall, second floor lecture hall.

When OSHA's new rule for recording injuries and illnesses takes effect on Jan. 1, 2002, it will affect over a million establishments in the U.S. The revision to OSHA's rule aims to improve the quality and consistency of injury and illness data while simplifying the system for the employer. The new rule is also designed to improve employee involvement and to protect the privacy of the injured or ill worker.

At the end of the training, participants will know:

  • the record keeping, posting and reporting requirements of OSHA's revised rule;
  • which employers and employees are covered under the revised record keeping requirements, and
  • how to complete OSHA illness and injury forms -- 300, 300A and 301.

For additional information and to reserve a space at the training session, please contact OSHA's Jackson area office at (601) 965-4606, ext. 0.
