OSHA, National Federation of Independent Business Extend Alliance for Two Years

WASHINGTON -- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) are extending their Alliance for two years, capitalizing on successes attained since the original collaboration in June 2004. "Our ongoing and successful relationship with NFIB," explained OSHA Administrator Ed Foulke after signing a two-year renewal to the agreement, "is providing us a tremendous resource to reach more small and independent business owners, managers, and employees to further the cause of workplace safety and health." Echoing those sentiments was NFIB President and Chief Executive Officer Todd Stottlemyer who said that "NFIB remains committed to helping its members get the information they need to identify and eliminate hazards, and the OSHA Alliance is a big part of that effort."

The Alliance has proven particularly beneficial by developing and disseminating information through both OSHA and NFIB's Web sites on the wealth of safety and health resources that focus on small and independent businesses. Additionally, a number of OSHA safety and health professionals have participated in NFIB's "Area Action Council Workers' Compensation meetings in Texas and Montana, reaching well over 750 small business owners.

OSHA and NFIB will continue to make health and safety information and compliance assistance resources available to all employers, and will focus on communicating the need for implementing safety and health management system programs in the workplace.
