OSHA, Illinois Onsite Safety & Health Program and P.J. Hoerr Team Up to Promote Construction Safety

PEORIA, Ill. -- Providing enhanced safety for workers at the Washington Area Community Center construction project is the goal of a new partnership among the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Illinois Onsite Safety & Health Consultation Program and P.J. Hoerr Inc., Peoria, Ill.

"This agreement provides an opportunity for the partners to come together and build on the value of safety and health not only for P.J. Hoerr employees, but also for the workers of sub-contractors at this site," said Bill Donovan, OSHA's acting area director in Peoria. "We are confident the cooperative effort will help reduce injuries and fatalities."

OSHA Strategic Partnerships for Worker Safety and Health are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers. OSHA's area office in Austin is working on the formation of this partnership.

The $8 million, multi-story community center project is scheduled to be completed in about 18 months. It involves more than 15 contractors and about 200 employees.

Employers and employees with questions about this or other OSHA partnerships may call the Peoria area office at (309) 589-7033 or visit OSHA's Web site for more information at www.ohsa.gov. Click on "Cooperative Programs."

Since its Strategic Partnership Program began in 1998, OSHA has formed more than 300 partnerships impacting more than 13,000 employers and 573,000 employees across the United States. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships, and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
