Ball Metal Beverage Container Group Recognized by OSHA
For Excellence in Occupational Safety and Health

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Ball Metal Beverage Container Group was recognized today by the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) site for excellence in their employee safety and health program.

The aluminum can manufacturer was designated a VPP "Merit" site during a ceremony at the plant in Golden, Colo. A VPP Merit site maintains employee safety and health programs that far exceed minimum OSHA standards.

"This VPP award recognizes Ball Container's commitment to safety and health excellence and their dedication to continual improvement." said Greg Baxter, OSHA regional administrator in Denver. "It's a tremendous accomplishment and was only made possible through significant employee involvement and dedicated management."

Baxter and Brad Baptiste, OSHA VPP manager for Region VIII, presented a VPP flag and plaque to the Ball Container team at the ceremony.

"Ball Container's safety and health program has many aspects considered best practices," said Baptiste. "The site has a comprehensive employee training program, a highly advanced and automated hazard tracking system and outstanding housekeeping and sanitation practices."

OSHA's prestigious Voluntary Protection Programs offer employers a unique opportunity to move beyond traditional safety programs by recognizing participants that successfully incorporate comprehensive safety and health programs into their total management systems.

About 1,260 work sites throughout the U.S have earned membership in the VPP. They represent more than 200 industries and achieve average injury rates 50 percent lower than other companies in their industry. For information about VPP in Region 8, contact OSHA's VPP manager at (720) 264-6556.
