El Paso Job Corps Center EL PASO, Texas -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has formed an alliance with the David L. Carrasco Job Corps Center in El Paso to educate students and instructors on safety and health in the workplace. OSHA health and safety alliances are part of Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers. "This alliance provides OSHA an opportunity to educate Job Corps students and instructors on worker safety," said John Miles, OSHA regional administrator in Dallas. "Job Corps students are trained for various vocations including welding, automotive repair and medical support, so being trained for safety is another important dimension of their education." Alliances enable organizations to collaborate with OSHA to prevent injuries and illnesses in the workplace. They help participating organizations network with others committed to safety and health and exchange information about best practices for addressing hazards, such as preventing falls and electrocutions. The David L. Carrasco Job Corps Center serves El Paso youth ages 16 to 24 with a training approach that integrates the teaching of academic, vocational, employability skills and social competencies through a combination of classroom, practical and work-based learning experiences.
