Form Safety and Health Alliance with OSHA OMAHA, Neb. -- Protecting workers from exposure to hazards in the lawn care and landscaping industry is the goal of a new alliance between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and industry representatives within Nebraska. A signing ceremony was held recently at the Quest Center during a safety and health summit of the Greater Omaha chapter of the National Safety Council. OSHA Health and Safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers. OSHA alliances provide an opportunity to participate in a cooperative relationship with OSHA for purposes such as training and education, outreach and communication, and promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health. "This alliance will provide information, guidance and access to training resources to protect employees' health and safety in the lawn care and landscaping industry" said John L. Henshaw, assistant secretary of labor for OSHA. "It will focus on reducing workers' exposure to safety and health hazards in this industry, specifically targeting hazards facing young workers and non-English speaking employees." Taking part in the signing ceremony with OSHA were representatives of the Nebraska Golf Course Superintendent Association, Nebraska Professional Lawn Care Association, Sports Turf Managers Association, the Nebraska Department of Labor-Workforce Development, and the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage & Hour Division.
