Business and Safety Conference Scheduled at South Suburban College on May 25

CHICAGO -- Workplace safety, business survival and other topics of vital interest to employers will be covered at the 1st Annual Business and Safety Conference at South Suburban College in South Holland, Ill., on Tuesday, May 25.

"This conference is a great opportunity to partner with the state of Illinois and the local academic community to help small businesses prevent job injuries and protect their workers," said Michael G. Connors, regional OSHA administrator.

The forum is co-sponsored by the Calumet City area office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Small Business Development Centers of South Suburban and Kankakee Community Colleges, the National Education Center at Northern Illinois University and the Onsite Consultation Program of the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.

Safety experts will focus on machine safeguarding and accident investigations, as well as the availability of free, onsite job safety and health consultation services.

Other professionals from the academic, legal and business communities will provide detailed information on starting a new business, finding new markets and business survival. Information on the Family and Medical Leave Act, financial investments for small businesses, international trade, workers compensation and workplace violence will also be available.

The one-day conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at South Suburban College, 15800 South State Street, in South Holland. The fee for the forum is $50 before May 14, and $75 after May 14. Fees include all classes, instructional materials, continental breakfast, and lunch. Advance registration is required. To obtain a registration form, call (708) 596-2000, ext. 2522.
