OSHA and Partners Present "Safety Fest of the West" April 7-8 in Denver
Construction Safety Training Sessions Offered in English and Spanish

DENVER -- Providing affordable job safety training to front line workers and supervisors in Colorado's construction industry is the focus of the "SafetyFest of the West" conference and exhibition April 7 and 8 at the Denver Merchandise Mart, I-25 and 58th Avenue.

Co-sponsored by the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) with several Colorado associations and consultation and training organizations, "SafetyFest of the West" will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, in conjunction with the 2004 Industrial Construction & Process Equipment Show.

"Cooperative efforts such as this in Colorado encourage businesses to develop and maintain effective safety and health programs," said Greg Baxter, OSHA's acting regional director in Denver. "They are a key element of compliance assistance efforts fostered by Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao."

Training sessions on construction safety and health topics will be offered in both English and Spanish. They include mandatory coursework on April 7 and elective coursework on April 8 through which participants can earn the OSHA 10-hour construction card. This credential is often sought by employers in the construction industry.

Course offerings include sessions on: Electrical Safety; Fall Protection; Materials Handling; Stairways and Ladders; Trenching and Excavating; Scaffolding; Motorized Vehicles and Mechanized Construction Equipment; Hand and Power Tools; Personal Protective and Life Saving Equipment; Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators and Conveyors; Confined Spaces and OSHA Recordkeeping.

Registration is $30 per day before March 19 or $35 per day after March 19 or at-the-door and includes all training events scheduled for that day, entry to the exhibit hall, morning coffee and pastries and lunch. Register on-line at www.safetyfest.org or, for questions, leave a message at 303-844-1600 ext. 312.

Along with OSHA, co-sponsors include: American Industrial Hygiene Association, American Society of Safety Engineers, American Subcontractors Association, Associated Builders and Contractors, Associated General Contractors of Colorado, Colorado Contractors Association, Inc., Colorado OSHA Consultation Program at CSU, Hispanic Contractors of Colorado, Homebuilders Association of Metro Denver, Pinnacol Assurance, The Washington Group, and the Rocky Mountain Education Center OSHA Training Institute.

In fiscal year 2003, OSHA's training programs reached more than 300,000 employers and workers. The U.S. Department of Labor is committed to providing America's employers and employees with easy access to understandable information on how to comply with its laws and regulations.
