PEORIA, Ill. -- Making and keeping the workplace safe and healthy is the focus of the 13th annual Downstate Illinois Occupational Safety and Health Day, slated for March 3 at the Peoria Civic Center. A wealth of information on workplace safety and health will be available for employers, workers and the public. This year's conference highlights safe approaches to some of industry's toughest workplace issues, beginning with a morning workshop on electrical safety, including "Current Dangers & Electrical Wizardry," presented by Robert LoMastro of LoMastro and Associates. Breakout sessions on confined spaces, fall protection, blood-borne pathogens, ergonomics and more will provide ways to prevent tragedy. The daylong conference opens for registration at 7:00 a.m. CST and continues with workshops and breakout sessions until 4:00 p.m. It offers safety professionals in downstate Illinois the chance to network with hundreds of their peers and to learn about resources available to businesses and employers. "The conference provides the best opportunity of the year to get your questions answered and issues resolved on the spot," said Peggy A. Zweber, director of OSHA's area office in Peoria. More than 50 exhibitors will join governmental and nonprofit organizations in demonstrating useful and innovative products and services designed to meet safety and health goals, Zweber noted. Exhibit area hours are from 7:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. the day of the conference, which is jointly sponsored by the American Society of Safety Engineers Central Illinois Chapter; American Industrial Hygiene Association, Prairie Section; Greater Peoria Contractors and Suppliers Association, Inc.; the Illinois Department of Labor; the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Peoria Area Office; and the Tri-County Construction Labor-Management Council.
