OSHA Recognizes Collegeville, Pa. Construction Site
For Safety And Health Success

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration today recognized Skanska USA Building Inc., Parsippany, NJ for its outstanding safety and health program at the Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Headquarters Construction Site in Collegeville, Pa.

Marie Cassady, OSHA assistant regional administrator, designated the project a STAR site in the Voluntary Protection Program at a special flag ceremony.

"The Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Headquarters Construction site joins an elite group of VPP worksites throughout the country," says Cassady. "The VPP demands a very high standard for participants, which requires the kind of diligence Skanska U.S.A has shown through its subcontractor safety program, its engineering controls and scaffolding safety procedures."

Skanska U.S.A. Building Inc. is serving as construction manager, overseeing Phase II of the project, which involves the construction of several buildings connected by a common spine and the erection of an 1160-car, three-level parking structure. The site is noted for having three-year recordable injuries and lost workday rates that are 75 and 90 percent below the industry average respectively.

The STAR program, designed for worksites with comprehensive, successful safety and health programs, is open to any industry and to companies with injury and illness rates below the industry's national average. The Voluntary Protection Program is OSHA's premier recognition program designed to promote effective safety and health management by employers.
