DENVER -- The Denver and Englewood, Colo., area offices of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Colorado Health Care Association (CHCA) have formed an alliance to provide information, guidance and training resources to employees in long-term care nursing facilities. The alliance will focus on enhancing safety education and training for nursing home employees, and will provide expertise in communicating this information to employers and employees in the industry. "This alliance illustrates a mutual goal and commitment to safety and health hazard prevention," said Herb Gibson, OSHA's area director in Denver. "Both OSHA and the Colorado Health Care Association believe in working together to develop safety and health training as well as promoting best practices and technical knowledge for the industry." The partners will cooperate in creating new ideas and opportunities to assist in the development of training material topics to include prevention of infection from bloodborne pathogens; slip, trip and fall hazards; workplace violence, and other safety and health issues common to the long-term care nursing industry in preventing workplace injuries. OSHA's Colorado area offices and CHCA, in conjunction with RTW Inc. and Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services Inc., will work together as members of the alliance implementation team to oversee the development and progress of the alliance. Alliance partners also will participate in conferences, forums, stakeholder meetings and other events. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the safety and health of employees through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and government agencies. OSHA currently has more than 500 alliances throughout the nation with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
