Zachry Construction Corp. in Bartlesville, Okla. is Recognized for Safety and Health Achievements by U.S. Labor Department's OSHA

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Zachry Construction Corp., Bartlesville, Okla., has earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony was held today at the company's facility on Short Avenue in Bartlesville.

"Zachry Construction Corp. has demonstrated excellence in effective safety and health management," said OSHA Acting Regional Administrator Frank Strasheim in Dallas. "In addition to their outstanding effort of maintaining an injury and illness rate that is 5 percent below the national average for their industry, housekeeping at the facility was considered to be excellent when compared with sites in similar industries."

Zachry Construction Corp., headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, is located at the ConocoPhillips Technology Center in Bartlesville. The maintenance contractors on-site employ about 60 full-time employees including welders, pipe fitters, equipment operators, insulators, movers, electricians, painters, plumbers and laborers. Maintenance activities cover 16 buildings and a hotel in downtown Bartlesville.

OSHA's VPP recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management. About 1,550 workplaces throughout the U.S., representing 280 industries, have earned OSHA's highest recognition as participants in the VPP.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
