Training materials will be provided in hard copy and CD-ROM to each participant. The training materials will also be available in Spanish.

Georgia Tech will develop and deliver tiered Process Safety Management (PSM) training to various levels of employees and managers working at food processing, chemical processors, petroleum refineries, and other businesses that are required to comply with the standard in Georgia, Texas, and Mississippi. Two PSM training modules will be developed: an introductory-level training package and a more comprehensive module that builds upon the first module and addresses each separate requirement of the standard. The introductory module will also be made accessible on CD-Rom in English and Spanish for those unable to attend a classroom-based session.

Harry S. Truman College will continue to provide the Powered Industrial Truck safety training started under its fiscal year 2007 Harwood grant. The College plans to add a Polish language component to its existing bilingual (English/Spanish) program in order to reach training audiences of Hispanic and Polish forklift operators. Five-hour bilingual training courses, including classroom and hands-on components, will be delivered on-site at companies, reaching 600 employees. In addition, 20 supervisors will be trained as trainers to conduct forklift safety training at their own companies.

The Construction Safety Council will develop some new training curricula and conduct various Work Zone and Motor Vehicle Safety for Contractors courses designed for those working in close proximity to roadways. A self-study work zone and fleet safety orientation program will be developed and available as a free download from their website.

Employee training will also be offered in Spanish.

The curriculum for the 4-hour Fall Hazard Recognition for At-Risk Workers course will be translated into Spanish and training will be conducted in English and Spanish. Technical assistance will also be provided to employers and 12 union locals.

The University will update and upgrade a web-based Safety and Health Management Systems for Small Businesses course produced under a previous Harwood grant. Deliverables include a 12-16 hour online training program, a CD ROM version available at cost, and a portable document format (PDF) posted on their website. All training materials will be available in English and Spanish. The course materials will be posted on the University’s web site for 2 years at no-cost to users, and the course will be distributed to Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) state offices for distribution to their clients. Web site visits and numbers trained will be tracked during the 2-year posting period.

The trainers will present tiered training courses to managers, joint health and safety committees, and employees working in light manufacturing, warehouses, and distribution centers.

The Council will develop, deliver, and evaluate a series of Process Safety Management (PSM) training courses for employees, members of safety and health committees, and union and management officials from New Jersey facilities covered by OSHA’s PSM standard. Training lasting from 2-to-8 hours will be presented to approximately 400 participants. The project will emphasize outreach to new and smaller businesses and workplaces with immigrant and minority employees.

The Union will conduct training sessions for poultry processing employees and supervisors on emergency preparedness and response including pandemic flu preparation. The University will develop and deliver a training program targeted to small businesses on emergency preparedness and response via a live ALERTcast, as well as provide an Influenza Pandemic Plan template that can be downloaded by trainees. The ALERTcast (Actual Learning Environment Response Training) webcast will be a live, interactive Internet broadcast of the training program, with hands-on scenarios, that is projected to reach 2,000 individuals. The ALERT webcast will also be provided free online after the grant program for future download.
Pennsylvania Foundry Association	Plymouth Meeting	PA	$175,108	General Industry	Ergonomics in Foundries
The Association will update previously developed training materials on ergonomic hazards in the foundry industry with information on recent ergonomic advances by OSHA and NIOSH, and will incorporate OSHA State Plan requirements for Indiana, Tennessee and Washington – three states where the project will be executed. Full-day train-the-trainer seminars and half-day in-plant train-the-worker sessions will be conducted in ten cities nationwide. The Association plans to train 250 new trainers and 500 employees from various foundries in the recognition and mitigation of ergonomic problems in foundries.

In addition, four train-the-trainer sessions will be conducted for 100 Spanish-speaking construction employees and supervisors.
