Jonathan Moore arrived in Belarus on July 25, 2006 to serve as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Minsk. Upon the forced departure of Ambassador Karen B. Stewart on March 12, 2008, Mr. Moore became the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the United States in Belarus.

Mr. Moore, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, first became a U.S. diplomat in 1990 and was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade in 1991. He was a desk officer for the former Yugoslavia in the State Department from 1993 to 1995, and was the Political/Economic Section Chief of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius, Lithuania from 1995 to 1999. After a one-year assignment as a Congressional Fellow in the Policy Office of Speaker of the House Hastert, Mr. Moore was the Deputy Director of the State Department’s Office of Russian Affairs from 2000 until 2002, serving also as that office’s Acting Director for several months in early 2002. He then worked as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia from 2002 to 2005. In his most recent assignment, Mr. Moore was a 2005-06 National Security Affairs Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
