U.S. Department of Labor's OSHA and Holder Construction Co. team up to promote construction safety

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. -- Providing enhanced safety for employees at the DuPont CH1 construction project, located in Elk Grove Village, is the goal of a new partnership between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Holder Construction Co.

"This agreement provides an opportunity for the partners to come together and build on the value of safety and health not only for Holder Construction employees but also for the employees of sub-contractors at this site," said Diane Turek, OSHA's area director in Des Plaines, Ill. "We are confident that this cooperative effort will help reduce injuries and fatalities."

The $300 million DuPont CH1 project will employ 12 contractors and 300 to 400 employees while converting a vacant 475,000 square foot manufacturing building into a computer data center that will be completed in 12 to 16 months.

OSHA's Strategic Partnership Program is part of U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and employees. More than 1.2 million employees and more than 33,000 employers across the United States have participated with OSHA in more than 455 strategic partnerships since the program began in 1998.

Employers and employees with questions about this or other OSHA partnerships may call the agency's Des Plaines Area Office at (847) 803-4800 or visit OSHA's Web site at www.osha.gov and click on "Cooperative Programs" for more information.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
