MADISON, Wis. -- The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), through its Wisconsin area offices and the state's Health Consultation Service, has formed an alliance with the Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA). OSHA alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships. "This alliance will give Wisconsin dentists and their staffs better access to job safety and health information. It will strengthen the cooperative efforts and level of trust already established between OSHA and the WDA." said OSHA Area Director Kimberly Stille. The alliance places a high priority on increasing safety and health awareness. A key goal is to establish a greater level of trust so WDA members will use OSHA and the Health Consultation Service as resources to answer questions or provide compliance assistance. The alliance will also promote participation in OSHA's prestigious Voluntary Protection Program and its SHARP recognition program. As part of the alliance, OSHA and the Wisconsin Dental Association will develop dental-specific training programs, materials and guidance that will comprehensively address safety and health. OSHA will participate in large-scale WDA conferences or local events and will publicize updates about health and safety issues that affect the dental community in WDA journals or Web sites. OSHA and the Wisconsin Health Consultation Service also will develop points of contact that have the expertise to meet the educational needs of dental offices and answer technical questions concerning safety and health issues. OSHA's Madison Area Office can be reached at (608) 441-5388. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is dedicated to saving lives, preventing injuries and illnesses, and protecting America's workers. Since 2001, OSHA has created more than 140 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace. For more information, visit www.osha.gov.
