Spring 2007 – OSHA representative(s) serve on the OPS Construction Academy Advisory Committee. This committee meets quarterly to discuss Construction Academy business, recruiting, apprenticeships, and future activities.

III. Events and Products

Training and Education
  • Events

    • Spring 2007 – OSHA staff instructed Omaha and Millard Public School Industrial Technology faculty in an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Outreach program. (Although we do not currently have an “alliance” with the Millard Public Schools, we have conducted 10-Hour Outreach to some of their students and included some of their faculty in this outreach training). Five faculty members received valuable safety and health information that will be integrated into existing Industrial Technology curriculum, as well as improving safety and health practices at the various middle and high school IT laboratories.

    • Fall 2007 – OSHA staff and construction industry safety directors provided the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach training to ten Construction Academy students.

    • Spring 2008 – To kick off our local Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign, OSHA representatives participated in the OPS Career Fair. As part of this activity, approximately 400 middle school students were introduced to OSHA, to basic safety and health concepts, and to the use of personal protective equipment. Students had the opportunity to handle various types of PPE as well as many of the “tools” an OSHA compliance officer might use during an inspection.
Outreach and Communication
  • Events

Other than the training and information provided above, the parties have not started to work on any additional projects to address this goal.
Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health
  • Events/Products

During this evaluation period, the above listed training and education has provided students and teachers within the Omaha Public Schools and the Millard Public Schools increased knowledge in worker safety and health.

V. Upcoming Milestones

Plan to conduct another 10-Hr. Outreach program for Construction Academy students in the Fall of 2008.

OPS Career Fair coordinators have asked us to serve as featured speakers at next year's event. For the past two years we have simply participated by having a booth and giving short presentations. Because of the popularity of the information and presentations, we would be one of a few highlighted speakers.
