Alliance Overview

The purpose of this alliance is to provide information; guidance and access to training resources that will help protect employee’s safety and health in all workplaces across the State of Illinois.

June 7, 2007 - Alliance meeting
August 30, 2007 – Meeting regarding Prairie State Safety Conference planning
February 2008 – May 2008 – phone conversations and emails for Alliance updates and conference planning

III. Activities and Products

Evaluation Period

May 11, 2007 to May 11, 2008

Alliance Activity:
  • Training and Education
    • May 2008 – ISC 3rd Annual Safety and Heath Conference. There were several OSHA speakers and an OSHA booth. Illinois Consultation Service also provided speakers.
    • July 12, 2007 OSHA (Nancy Hauter) spoke to breakfast meeting
    • October 2007, OSHA (Julie Evans) spoke to the American Association of Safety Councils to which ISC is a member.
    • November 7, 2007 – OSHA provided speakers for the Emergency Preparedness conference.
    • One forklift training session.
    • First aid and CPR Training sessions.
    • Three Safety Breakfast Series held.
  • Outreach and Communication
    • OSHA staffed a booth at each ISC conference.
    • Promoting the National Dialogue on Safety and Health
Alliance Products.
  • Training and Education
    • The ISC has developed and implemented a National Safety Administrator designation. The training consists of 10 sessions on various safety and health topics. If the training is completed within 5 months, the attendee can receive the OSHA 10 hour card.
  • Outreach and Communication
    • ISC Public Service Announcements-Made Possible By Comcast Cable!
      The Illinois Safety Council and Comcast Cable both feel their mission is to provide safety outreach to the public because that is the right thing to do. Marc Boardnax, ISC Board Member and Midwest Safety & Compliance Director at Comcast Cable, with other men and women at Comcast Cable made a series of safety PSA's happen for the Illinois Safety Council directed at both on and off the job safety. These inventive PSA's are being played in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
    • Staffed safety booth at Construction Safety Council and National Safety Council.
  • Promoting the National Dialogue on Safety and Health
    • On line training available
    • Video/DVD loan library
       
IV. Results

A.

The overall impact of this Alliance has been positive for all involved. The OSHA/ISC Alliance has opened doors to safety and health with many companies not only in Illinois, but Indiana and Wisconsin as well. The Public Service Announcements (PSAs) are being shown 1,440 time per day on 60 regular stations in Illinois and Northwest Indiana. V. Upcoming Milestones

4th Annual ISC Safety and Health Conference – May 2009

OSHA and ISC will continue to work on the National Safety Administrator Designation, outreach training and Comcast Public Service announcements.

Expanding National Safety Administrator Designation training locations throughout Illinois.

Combustible Dust Explosion Inspection Seminar, Ergonomics and On-Site Emergency Response Planning Session Seminars are planned for the fall 2008.

OSHA/ISC/IDOL Compliance Conference is planned for winter 2009.
