From Oct.1, 1999 to Sept. 30, 2003, OSHA investigated 18 fatal excavation and trenching accidents in Georgia. In an effort to reduce these tragic accidents, GUCA developed this safety seminar with an emphasis on improving the safety and health culture of industry employers and employees. "How to Develop a Safety Culture Within Your Company" is scheduled during a day of safety and health-related training sessions to be held Nov. 13, at the Georgia International Convention Center. "This seminar demonstrates that industry leaders recognize a problem and are taking meaningful steps to address this serious safety issue," said Andre Richards, OSHA's Atlanta-West area director.
GUCA is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization composed of Georgia contractors who work in subsurface conditions: water and wastewater treatment plants, water, sewer and gas lines, underground power lines, and telephone lines.
