State Department Co-Sponsors Conference on Unaccompanied Minors

On Wednesday, October 22 through Friday, October 24, the Departments of State, Homeland Security and Health and Human Services, and George Mason University will co-sponsor a conference on the issue of unaccompanied minors – asylum seekers, refugees, trafficking victims, vulnerable migrants, and others – at the Johnson Center, George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. The conference will bring together experts from UN organizations, child welfare groups, lawyers specializing in child immigration cases, academic experts, and others. Two former unaccompanied minors who were successfully reunited in the U.S. with their mothers will also attend.

Conference events will be on the record, off camera. Sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run through 5:30 p.m. each day. A full schedule of events is available at: http://childalone.gmu.edu/schedule/.

Journalists are welcome to attend, subject to space, and can find more information about the conference on the conference’s website, http://childalone.gmu.edu/. Directions to the conference site can be found at: http://childalone.gmu.edu/directions/.

Attendees must present official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
