Question: Provide a read-out of the trilateral meeting today between the United States, South Korea, and Japan. What was the purpose of the meeting?  Who represented the U.S.?
 
Answer: The delegations of the United States, the Republic of Korea, and Japan, headed respectively by Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William J. Burns, Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Yong-joon, and Deputy Foreign Minister Kenichiro Sasae, today held a trilateral meeting in Washington, D.C. In the meeting, the three delegations had in-depth discussions on a range of major international issues, including the situation in Northeast Asia and the promotion of regional cooperation. Satisfied with the discussions, the three delegations agreed that it would be useful to hold such meetings on a regular basis and to consult one another about the timing and venue for the next meeting through diplomatic channels.
