United States and Afghanistan Strategic Partnership Meeting in Washington, DCDeputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte and Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta will co-chair the third meeting of U.S.-Afghanistan Strategic Partnership on September 25, 2008. The Strategic Partnership is a symbol of our strong and enduring relationship with Afghanistan. The four Strategic Partnership Working Groups on security, governance, development, and counter-narcotics each will produce specific proposals for joint action that the U.S. and Afghanistan will implement in order to achieve our shared objectives.
At the conclusion of the plenary meeting, Deputy Secretary Negroponte and Foreign Minister Spanta will address the press and respond to reporters’ questions. Following the subsequent Working Group meetings, the U.S. and Afghanistan will issue a written joint statement.
Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte will open the plenary session on September 25, at 9:30 a.m. The opening is pool press coverage.
The Joint Press Availability will take place in the Loy Henderson Conference Room at the Department of State at 10:15a.m. This event is open for press coverage.
