Taken Question Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC September 17, 2008 Question taken at Daily Briefing of Sept. 17, 2008.
Yemen at UN General Assembly (Taken Question)Question: Will Yemen be invited to the Secretary’s meeting with foreign ministers from the Maghreb to discuss counterterrorism issues during the United Nations General Assembly meeting?
Answer: Yemen is not a member of the Arab Maghreb Union. Its member states are Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, and Tunisia. We recognize, however, that the Government of Yemen is a valuable ally in the global war on terror, and we welcome working together for greater security in the Broader Middle East.
We note that the Secretary’s schedule is tentative and her meetings in New York during the UN General Assembly have not been finalized.
