State Department Employee Receives 2008 Service to America National Security and International Affairs Medal

The Department of State congratulates Kate Friedrich, Special Advisor to the Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, who was awarded the prestigious Service to America National Security and International Affairs Medal for 2008. Ms. Friedrich made outstanding contributions through her leadership of the U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council, a major public/private effort to enhance the economic, social and political status of women in Afghanistan. Further information on Ms. Friedrich’s contributions is available at: http://servicetoamericamedals.org

Ms. Friedrich was honored along with seven other award recipients at a dinner and awards ceremony at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, September 16.

Service to America Medals are presented annually by the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works to revitalize federal government by inspiring a new generation to serve and by transforming the way government works.
