Henrietta Fore To Address a Preview of the White House Summit on International Development
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator and Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance Henrietta Fore will provide a preview of the October 21, 2008 White House Summit on International Development: Sustaining the New Era. This scene-setter will take place at the beginning of the Daily Press Briefing on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 11:15 a.m.
The White House Summit will focus on the Bush Administration's core principles in transforming international development: country ownership, good governance, results-based programs and accountability, and the importance of economic growth. Through policies rooted in these principles, the U.S. has ushered in a new era of international development by linking assistance with results that are producing historic, life-saving impact in millions of lives around the globe.
Coordinated in conjunction with USAID, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the summit will bring together a wide range of country beneficiaries, faith-based organizations, and other stakeholders in the international development community, including public, private, and nongovernmental leaders from the United States and the developing world.
Media representatives planning to attend this event should present one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued media identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
