Inauguration of the Jefferson Science Fellows Distinguished Lecture Series on Current Issues in Science and Technology

Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State Dr. Nina Fedoroff will speak on “Seeds of a Perfect Storm: Genetically Modified Crops and the Global Food Security Crisis” on Friday, October 17, 2008, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.in the U.S. Department of State George C. Marshall Conference Center. 

This speaking engagement will be the inaugural event of a new series of lectures at the Department of State showcasing the role of science and technology in promoting national security, protecting the global environment, and advancing economic growth. 

Future speakers in this lecture series will be current and alumn Jefferson Fellows working at the U.S. Department of State. The Jefferson Fellows Program was established in October 2003, as a new model for engaging scientists and engineers from American universities in the formulation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy.

This event is pool for cameras and open to writers. 
Final access for writers is 10:45 a.m. from the 21st Street entrance.
 
Media representatives planning to attend this event should present one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued media identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
