Preventing work-related injuries and fatalities is top priority during construction of Target in Fitchburg FITCHBURG, Wis. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has agreed to form a partnership with the Building and Construction Trades of South Central Wisconsin and Ryan Companies US Inc., with the goal of providing a safe work environment for all employees during the construction of the Target store in Fitchburg, Wis. "This agreement provides an opportunity for the partners to come together and demonstrate that we all benefit when management, labor and government dedicate themselves to providing a safe and healthful work environment,” said Kimberly Stille, OSHA area director in Madison. "Our priority is to have every employee go home healthy and uninjured at the end of the day and we are confident this partnership will help us meet that goal." The primary goals of the partnership are to reduce serious injuries and illnesses of all employees at the work site, increase the number of safety and health programs among contractors and subcontractors and to create a working relationship that focuses on preventing work-related fatalities. OSHA Strategic Partnership Program is part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and employees. More than one-million employees and more than 33,000 employers across the United States have participated with OSHA in more than 440 strategic partnerships since the program began in 1998. OSHA's area office in Madison is working on the formation of this partnership. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
