FORT WORTH, Texas -- AmeriCold Logistics Dry Facility in Fort Worth, Texas, has earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony was held today at the company's dry foods distribution facility on Railhead Drive in Fort Worth. "AmeriCold Logistics' Dry Facility has continued to demonstrate excellence in effective safety and health management for more than five years," said OSHA Regional Administrator Frank Strasheim. "Their outstanding effort includes an injury and illness rate 65 percent below the industry average. In addition, this is the company's second location to be awarded this prestigious status." The Fort Worth facility, which employs about 115 workers, is a third-party distribution center that distributes dry-food products. It custom picks, receives and ships more than 4,000 different food items. A large warehouse and business offices are located on-site. Corporate offices are in Atlanta. OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs recognize and promote effective workplace safety and health management. About 1,400 workplaces throughout the U.S., representing 280 industries, have earned OSHA's highest recognition as participants in the VPP. They typically achieve injury and illness rates that are 50 percent lower than the average for their industry. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
