Windsor Republic Door Inc., Little Rock, Ark., Cited $155,250 in
Penalties for Exposing Workers to Safety Hazards

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued citations and proposed penalties of $155,250 to Windsor Republic Door Inc., in Little Rock for exposing workers to unguarded machines and other workplace hazards.

Windsor Republic Door received citations from OSHA for two alleged willful, 12 alleged serious and four alleged other-than-serious violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. OSHA's investigation began May 11 in response to a complaint.

"Strong enforcement is a key part of this Administration's efforts to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses," said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. "The significant penalty of $155,250 in this case demonstrates our commitment to protecting the health and safety of American workers."

The willful citations address machine guarding and point of operation machine guarding hazards. A willful violation is defined as an intentional disregard of or plain indifference to the OSHA law and regulations.

Alleged serious violations are related to industrial truck operations; poor housekeeping such as blocked aisles, walkways and work areas; unprotected open-sided floors, improper "lockout-tagout" procedures to prevent machines from turning on during maintenance or repair operation; inadequate eye protection from corrosives and welding operations; and electrical hazards. A serious citation is issued when death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard about which the employer knew or should have known.

The other-than-serious citations address inadequate toilet facilities and the improper use of flexible cords.

Windsor has 15 working days from receipt of the citations to comply, request an informal conference with the Little Rock area office, or to contest the citations and penalties before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Employers and employees with questions about workplace safety and health standards can call OSHA's Little Rock area office at (501) 324-6291. The hot line 1-800-321-OSHA may be used to report workplace accidents, fatalities or situations posing imminent danger to workers.

OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health. For more information, please visit www.osha.gov
