New Partnership Will Promote Safety For Georgia Aquarium Construction

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is forging a partnership for safety with two key players in the Georgia Aquarium construction project: general manager Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC, and the Georgia Tech Consultative Service.

OSHA safety and health partnerships are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers. The trio will sign their partnership agreement May 13 at the project site before Assistant Secretary of Labor John Henshaw, who heads OSHA.

Goals for the aquarium partnership are to assure that employers have effective safety and health programs and that employees are trained to recognize, reduce and eliminate hazards that can lead to fatalities, injuries and illnesses. Participating employers also will provide appropriate training for non-English-speaking employees.

"This partnership sets safety and health as a high priority," said Andre Richards, director of OSHA's Atlanta-West office. "It represents a commitment by all the parties to provide workers with a safe and healthy work environment."
