Women Leaders from the Middle East and North Africa Participate in the Election Exchange Program (10/24)
Nearly fifty women political leaders from the Middle East and North Africa met with President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice this week as part of the Election Exchange Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). The participants engaged in candid discussions with both the President and Secretary on democracy and reform efforts in the Middle East and North Africa. [more]

Bus Bombing in Tripoli
Deputy Spokesman Wood (Sept. 29):
"We condemn the senseless attack today on a bus carrying Lebanese army troops in Tripoli, Lebanon. This incident is particularly abhorrent as it comes during the holy month of Ramadan." [more]

United States Contributes Nearly $28 Million to Relief Effort for Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon (9/26)
The United States has contributed an additional $17.81 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for reconstruction and emergency relief at the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp in Lebanon. Fighting during the summer of 2007 destroyed the camp and displaced over 30,000 people. Read more
