FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JMD WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25, 1995 (202) 616-2765 TDD (202) 514-1888 JUSTICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES INNOVATIVE COMPUTER MAINTENANCE SERVICE CONTRACT WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Department of Justice announced today it has awarded Unisys Corporation of McLean, Virginia, a master contract to maintain and provide technical support services for computers and other automated equipment. The new contract reduces costs and improves efficiency by combining several agency agreements under a single arrangement. The new contract is expected to save 20 percent or more over current contracts, said Stephen Colgate, Assistant Attorney General for Administration. "By combining resources and consolidating our maintenance and support requirements, the Department will provide employees with dependable data processing resources on a cost-effective basis," Colgate said. Under the contract, Unisys will provide maintenance for personal and laptop computers, laser printers and other office equipment. It also will provide on-call service, per-call service, mail-in service, and depot service, as well as help-desk staffing, cabling assistance, and system relocation services. The contract will be administered by the Justice Management Division. The contract consolidates services for all Department offices in the continental United States, Alaska, the Caribbean and Europe. Procurement for the contract involved the cooperative efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Trustees, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorneys, the Environment and Natural Resources Division and the Tax Division. "All Justice agencies are looking for ways to cut costs, but still allow direct, personal dealings with contractors," said Colgate. "This cooperative, consolidated contract achieves that goal." The Information Systems Selection and Acquisition Agency of the U.S. Army negotiated the contract. ##### 95-042
