FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY - NOT FOR RELEASE AG TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 1995 (202) 616-2765 TDD (202) 514-1888 ATTORNEY GENERAL RENO VISITS LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA TO OFFER THE PRESIDENT'S SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY WASHINGTON, DC -- Attorney General Janet Reno will visit Rogers Middle School, 365 Monrovia Avenue, in the Long Beach Unified School District on Wednesday, December 6 at 3:30 pm (PST) to convey President Clinton's support for local school uniform policies as a way of fighting youth violence. The uniform policy is, in part, credited with bringing about a sharp drop in crime in Long Beach schools, including drug cases, sex offenses and fighting. Long Beach Unified School District is the first district in the nation to require students to wear uniforms--a policy that has been challenged by civil rights organizations. The Attorney General will attend a school forum to speak to and hear from students in uniform, parents and community leaders on the uniform policy. Reno will also meet with students involved in other local programs designed to curb youth violence. Press should arrive at 3:00 pm to set up in Rogers Middle School auditorium.
