ATTORNEY GENERAL ASHCROFT TO HOLD NEWS CONFERENCE IN TEXAS
ANNOUNCING STATEWIDE CAMPAIGN TO PREVENT GUN VIOLENCE

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Attorney General John Ashcroft will join all four United States Attorneys for Texas and the Attorney General of Texas at a news conference on Friday, May 2, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. CDT to announce a statewide campaign to prevent and reduce gun violence in conjunction with the President’s national Project Safe Neighborhoods program. The Attorney General will be joined by “Team Texas” members: Johnny Sutton of the Western District; Matthew D. Orwig of the Eastern District; Jane J. Boyle of the Northern District; Michael Shelby of the Southern District; and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

A 15-minute satellite transmission will be available at 3:30 p.m. CDT following the press conference that will contain highlights from the press conference including sound on tape from all speakers, eight Project Safe Neighborhoods public service announcements (5 in English; 3 in Spanish) and b-roll footage from the event.
