FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AG FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1997 (202) 514-2008 TDD (202) 514-1888 ATTORNEY GENERAL RENO APPOINTS CORRECTIONS, SUPERVISION TRUSTEES WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today Attorney General Janet Reno announced the appointment of two trustees to oversee the transition of part of DC's criminal justice system to the Federal government. John L. Clark will serve as District of Columbia Corrections Trustee, and John A. "Jay" Carver will serve as District of Columbia Pretrial Services, Parole and Offender Supervision Trustee (Offender Supervision Trustee). "Together our new trustees have nearly 50 years experience in public safety," Reno said. "I am confident they will bring the necessary vision, experience and sensitivity to their service of criminal justice in the District." Clark has 23 years experience with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP). A former warden, Clark currently oversees contracts between the BOP and community corrections centers and jails and is responsible for BOP's privatization initiatives. Carver is currently the Director of the DC Office of the Justice Management Institute. Prior to that, he worked for 23 years at the District of Columbia Pretrial Services Agency. The DC Revitalization Act requires the Attorney General to appoint a Corrections Trustee to oversee financial operations of the DC Department of Corrections until the BOP assumes responsibility for all felony offenders sentenced to prison under the DC Code. The Offender Supervision Trustee will organize the transition of pretrial services, parole, adult probation and offender supervision. ### 97-405
