Marshals Apprehend Michigan Fugitive After 35 Years on the Run

Columbia, SC – Barbara Glenn also known as Barbara Corley of Piedmont, SC was arrested on August 22, 2008 at 11:30am by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Operation Intercept. Task Force Officers advise Corley has been a fugitive for thirty-five (35) years after allegedly escaping from the Detroit House of Corrections in Plymouth, Michigan. South Carolina Marshals arrested Corley at a residence on Reserve Drive in Piedmont, SC.

The fugitive was booked into Anderson County Detention Center to await court proceedings. The arrest took place without incident.

In announcing the arrest U.S. Marshal Johnny Mack Brown states “through our investigation we determined Corley had established an entirely new life in South Carolina. She will now have to return to Michigan to face her pending charges.”

Established in 1789, the United States Marshals Service is the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency. In fiscal 2007, the Marshals arrested more than 36,000 federal fugitives, clearing 38,900 felony warrants. Marshals Service-led task forces like South Carolina’s Operation Intercept arrested 46,800 state and local fugitives, clearing 58,663 state and local fugitives clearing 70,329 felony warrants. Locally, Operation Intercept arrested over 2,500 South Carolina fugitives during that same period.
