Second Williamson County Sexual Assault Suspect Nabbed After 12 Years on the Run

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force LogoAustin, TX – Danny Lee Warren, Jr., 31 of North Henderson, Illinois was arrested by the Bettendorf Police Department, Mercer County, Illinois Sheriff’s Office and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task yesterday morning in Bettendorf, Iowa without incident. Warren was arrested after he was alerted to officer’s presence at his place of employment at the Bettendorf Middle School.

It was determined through joint investigation by the Williamson County Constable’s Office in Pct. 2 and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force that Warren fled from Williamson County in 1996. During this time, Warren transited throughout Illinois settling in North Henderson. U.S. Marshals in Rock Island were able to determine a known place of employment and requested the assistance of the Bettendorf PD. Warren was indicted in July of 1996 by a Williamson County Grand Jury. It is alleged in the two count indictment that Warren sexually assaulted a child in Williamson County, Texas. Shortly after indictment, Warren fled from the Williamson County area and his whereabouts were presumed unknown.

Warren is the second Williamson County fugitive charged with sex offenses against a minor arrested in the past 90 days outside of Texas based upon outstanding charges stemming from the mid 1990’s. Warren will remain in the custody of Scott County Jail in Davenport, Iowa pending his extradition to Williamson County.

LaFayette Collins, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, states, “The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is committed to hunting down criminals who victimize our children no matter how long it takes. We are happy to see Danny Warren will eventually return to Williamson County where he will have his day in court.”

Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Austin are the Austin Police Department – Intelligence Unit, Williamson County Constable Pct. 2, Texas Rangers, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
